Sushil Rao Chilkuri is an award-winning Indian journalist, documentary filmmaker, author, public intellectual, and AI generalist with nearly 38 years of professional experience spanning print journalism, digital media, broadcast storytelling, documentary cinema, traditional folk performance, and artificial intelligence–driven narrative exploration.
Beginning his journalism career in 1988, Sushil Rao Chilkuri has lived through and actively worked across every major transformation in modern journalism—from typewriters and film cameras to digital-first newsrooms, video journalism, podcasts, and now AI-assisted storytelling and filmmaking.
He is currently Editor – Special Reports at The Times of India, Hyderabad, a position he has held continuously since May 15, 2000.
His professional life bridges tradition and technology. Alongside his newsroom career, he is a Burrakatha performer since 1979, practising one of Telangana’s 1500-year-old oral storytelling traditions while simultaneously engaging with contemporary studies in artificial intelligence, ethics, leadership, and generative media.
